Climate Transformed hosted a half-day virtual forum on Next Generation Battery Technology. The goal of the event is to dive deeply into the innovations required to solve the great challenges of storage, including range, cost, and efficacy. Explore solutions to range anxiety, the realism of solid-state batteries, and the role of cobalt and graphite. Conversations with some of the world’s leading VCs, who will assess the opportunity sets from the investor perspective.

Dr Barbara K. Hughes received her PhD in Chemistry from CU Boulder in 2013. After a postdoc at the National Renewable Energy Lab, she joined the team at Forge Nano in 2016, where she is currently the Director of Energy Storage and leads the Internal Measurements and Characterization Group. Her team focuses on both physical and electrochemical characterization of ALD enhanced materials with an emphasis on materials for energy storage applications.

Kunal Phalpher joined Li-Metal in 2022 as President. Prior to joining Li-Metal, Mr. Phalpher served as Chief Strategy Officer of Li-Cycle Holdings Corp., a leading lithium-ion battery recycler based in Toronto, where he led strategic planning and corporate development, and oversaw the company's global customer base and commercial development strategy. During his time at Li-Cycle, he played an instrumental role in guiding the company from a start-up through a rapid growth phase and its transition to a U.S. publicly traded company, previously holding the title of Chief Commercial Officer at the company. Prior to Li-Cycle, Mr. Phalpher held several roles in the renewable energy and energy storage space, both in North America and Europe, with a strong focus on strategy and business development. Mr. Phalpher has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto).

Prof. Dr. [M] Noshin Omar is the managing director of ABEE and has 18 years’ experience in R&D projects. He obtained his PhD degree in electromechanical Engineering Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in the field of Li-ion batteries for automotive applications. Since 2012 until March 2019, he was the Director of the Battery Innovation Centre at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he was leading a team of 30 researchers in the field of energy storage. Over the last 10 years he has been active in various national and European projects in the field of characterisation, electrical, thermal, electrochemical and lifetime modelling of various rechargeable energy storage systems. He contributed to various European projects (in total 25 projects) such as SUPERLIB, ORCA, ASSURED, GHOST, OBELICS, SELFIE, VISION-xEV, 3BELIEVE, LONGRUN, LIPLANET, SUBLIME, SAFELIMOVE, COFBAT. He has more than 200 publications.

Damien is the Chief Executive Officer of Volexion, driving business and technology development, commercial, and strategic planning activities. Damien has over 20 years of leadership experience in the Energy, Climate Tech, Materials and Industrial Tech sectors. Prior to joining Volexion, Damien gained expertise in Climate Tech commercialization and Venture Capital (Energy Foundry), Management Consulting (McKinsey), and Industrial Operations, Scale-up & Capital projects (Total Refining & Chemicals). Damien received his MBA from INSEAD, his MS of Chemical Engineering from IFP School and his MS in Chemistry from the Paris Institute of Technology (ENSCP)
